Kid's
Hope - U S A
Kid's Hope USA seeks to work exclusively
through local churches, and teach members of their congregations to engage
in a one-to-one mentoring
relationship with at-risk public
elementary school children. The following facts are cited about the
characteristics of at-risk children:
A. One (1)
out of five (5) children lives in poverty;
B. Two (2) out of five (5)
children live in single parent homes;
C. One (1) out
or three (3) children lacks a significant father figure.
The ability of these children to learn
is seriously impaired if they do not have
a
relationship with even one (1) adult who cares. They
need love!
Tina Box, KFUMC program coordinator, is
the church point of contact for Kid's Hope.
Our congregation is partnering with the
Tom Daniels Elementary School's Mentor director, Laurie Rees, to train
mentors and prayer partners on how a mentor will use a weekly one hour
"event" and build a relationship that focuses
on a child's emotional and social needs.
All mentors are trained to abide by the rules of the host organization, in
this case the Kerrville Independent School District. While there is no
evangelism at the school, participation in church activities may occur with
parental approval. Schools in 27 states have already embraced KIDS HOPE USA.
Prayerfully consider becoming a mentor,
and/or a prayer partner for this important and vital mentoring effort and
make a difference in the life of one child."
