2008 SPRING/SUMMER MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

June 9 - 12 (8:30 am - noon) Help at Vacation Bible School
June 22 26: (Sunday 2:00 pm - Thursday 2:00 pm "My Mission" Senior High Mission Trip
July 7 - 9: (8:00 am - 5:00 pm) "Neighbor to Neighbor" Senior High and Junior High Service Project

Why do we go on Mission Trips?

Christian Fellowship - You have the opportunity to experience true Christian fellowship. New friends are made and the very fabric of each life is shared.
Opportunity to evaluate our own culture - Reality of how very blessed we are and how much we take for granted in our day-to-day lives.
Hearts are broken - Our hearts are broken when we witness the poor living conditions of so many people and the loneliness that many people experience in their lives.
We see Jesus on Mission Trips - We see the face of Jesus on the people we serve and on each other as we work side-by-side.

Youth Summer MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Senior High
"MY Mission"
June 22 - 26

This is open to all students who will enter the 9th grade in the fall through graduating seniors. We will be staying in San Antonio at University United Methodist Church. We will team up with students from other Methodist churches in our conference to serve in the inner city. Some of our service opportunities include: helping at a homeless shelter, working with children by providing vacation Bible school experiences, helping at a food bank and entertaining children at the Methodist Children's Hospital. We will have worship together every evening, along with a time of fun and fellowship. This will be a tremendous time of servant-hood. I hope that you will prayerfully consider this opportunity.

YOUTH MISSION TRIP - Junior High and Senior High
Neighbor to Neighbor - July 7 - 9

This is open to all students entering seventh grade in the fall through graduating seniors. We will be teaming up with other churches in our community to go out and serve the elderly. In the past we have done everything from window washing, lawn mowing and grocery shopping, to wheelchair ramp building and painting. Make plans to join us for this week where you will be mightily blessed as you serve others.

Covenant of Conduct for Mission Opportunities

Rules of Behavior
1. I understand that I will be treated as a mature child of God and agree to treat everyone else on this trip (no exceptions) as mature children of God.
2. I understand that I alone am responsible for my actions, and agree to act in a manner that honors God, those that have reared me and those that I am with on this trip, that through my actions God may receive glory.
3. I understand that the use or possession of illegal drugs, alcoholic beverages and tobacco are explicitly prohibited and cause for the sponsors to terminate my participation on this trip.
4. I understand that I am expected and required to participate in all group activities.
5. I understand that my dress shall be appropriate and in good taste and that the sponsors have the right the right to make that judgment.
6. I understand that if I deliberately and maliciously violate any of these rules at any point on this trip, and at the sole discretion of the sponsors, I may be transported home and that my parents/guardian will have to incur that expense.
7. I understand that these rules are not intended to be punitive or restrictive, that they were written here in the spirit of clear communication and that no one will be more surprised by their violation than than the sponsors. I understand that the sponsors have agreed to spend this time of their vacation with me because they love and value me as a Child of God and as a member of our Youth Group.

It is important for the safety and understanding of youth, sponsors, parent/guardians and the church that participating youth and parent/guardian read and sign this covenant. The team of sponsors, collectively and individually, reserve the right and accept the responsibility to assume fair, equitable and consistent judgment with regards to consequences resulting from a youth's behavior.

I, (name of youth) have read and understood the Covenant of Conduct above and happily agree to abide by it. I fully expect to have a fun and fulfilling Youth Group experience.
